One of August’s Soul Themes is Reinvention. In the marketplace and elsewhere, stories of innovation abound. Alongside this, businesses are closing and uncertainty grows. The intuitive hit for Fall 2020 is, start leaning into reinvention early. Be proactive. Look at your life, your work, your relationships. Look at the big picture of it all right now. What areas seeks attention? Then, pause to see what it took to get you here. Give thanks, before moving on. This is the first step of the creative cycle you don’t want to miss…
When clients work to create more healthy wealth through sacred work, there can be times they get “stucked” up. They slow down, or reach a stopping point. Sometimes they’ve been moving too fast and the pause helps balance or right the pace. Sometimes they might miss an important emotional reality in their zeal or speed.
I’ve learned to trust these pauses. Covid-19 is such a disruptor, and causing quite the pause. And, there is a need for reinvention afoot, for individuals and the world. This pause, this slowing down to reconsider, could be one of the benefits of Covid-19.
During a coaching experience, one of the big blind spots of clients is pushing forward too quickly or too hard at times. Balanced pacing and aligned creating requires stops along the way. Stops to rest, to recover one’s juju, to acknowledge major achievements and progress. To take stock of how far on the journey you’ve come. To look back, and look ahead, from this new vantage point of where you are now.
IT CAN BE HARD TO STOP – TO PAUSE
It can be counter-intuitive to stop and take stock, to give thanks for all this effort and progress. Are you there yet? No, not quite. If a pause or stuckness descends, you’re not moving ahead anyway. When is this a gift? When it helps you take the pause that make your next steps more masterful and your targets more clear.
This place in the cycle is described well in the Book of Runes, by Ralph Blum. The Runes are an oracle or divination tool likened to the I Ching of the Vikings. The rune Gateway, Thurisaz, is the “Place of Non-Action”, also called a gateway. Again, it’s a pause. It asks you to acknowledge your progress, and all it took to get you here.
The next time the movement or traction you seek eludes you, try proactive pausing. See if there is some acknowledgement that needs to happen before you proceed.
Here’s the pause as Thurisaz puts it:
“Visualize yourself standing before a gateway on a hilltop. Your entire life lies out behind you and below. Before you step through, pause and review the past: the learning and the joys, the victories and the sorrows – everything it took to bring you here. Observe it all, bless it all, and release it all. For in letting go of the past you reclaim your power.
Step through the gateway now.”
LET THIS MOUNTAIN SETTING INVITE YOUR REINVENTION IN
A couple of weeks ago, I was in my special place in the mountains. Here is a video called Crossing the Bridge into the New . I modeled this after Thurisaz and the gateway idea. Except it’s crossing the bridge, or at least stepping up to it.
This time, the August 2020 Covid corridor, sounds the soul’s call for reinvention. Are you making the impact and difference you can to make? Is there a way to bring more joy and ease to it? To serve your people more? Let these questions simmer. Acknowledge all it took to get this far. Have a good sleep that night, inviting relevant dreams. In the morning, welcome more ideas about your reinvention’s next steps.
